What are blinds?

A blind is a screen for a window.
Here at Wigston blinds and awnings we provide many different types of made to measure blinds of which I will talk about the pros and cons of each design.

Venetian blinds

Venetian blinds can be created in two or three types, Wooden venetian blinds can look good in either modern or traditional homes made from either Wood or Fauxwood in 35mm or 50 mm widths
Alumimium Venetians are available in 25mm, 35 mm or 50 mm slats

A benefit of venetian blinds is that they are low maintenance, the blinds only need a dust down occasionally.
Venetian blinds have great adjustability, the slats can be adjusted to control the amount of light that enters the room and also the privacy of the room. Aluminium Venetian blinds come in many finishes and textures as well as many different colours.
All Venetian Blinds come with a child safety device fitted.

Conservatory blinds

Conservatory blinds can come in a variety of styles and sizes, for example, they can have vertical slats, horizontal slats or even a solid structure.
All blinds help reduce the glare from the sun which will make it easier to see device screens especially during the summer months making the conservatory more habitable in all seasons. Furthermore, conservatory blinds can reduce UV sunlight exposure to furniture. Furniture that has been exposed to direct sunlight for a long period of time often tends to discolour and the material will degrade. Conservatory blinds can reduce the amount of sunlight reaching the furniture.

Perfect fit blinds

Perfect fit blinds are a neat option as they become part of your window frame, they come enclosed in the frame of the window and can be adjusted without the use of rollers or hanging chains which also helps with child or pet safety.

Because they fit tightly to the window frame they are a big help to keeping the room warm in winter and cooler in summer as the perfect fit blind system allows less heat to escape or enter through the glass
Perfect fit blinds are very versatile and can be used throughout the entire house.

Roller blinds

Roller blinds hang vertically from the top of the window from a roller. These blinds are very common and most come with either a chain to pull or electrically operated, very simple but effective solution for a window covering.

Another great plus for roller blinds is that they are relatively inexpensive and available in a variety of materials and colours. Roller blinds are available from a thin sheer fabric to a full blackout fabric option.

The only slight drawback with a roller is the small gap at the side which you get with all rollers, a side channel option is available for some rollers with an additional cost.

Roman blinds

Roman blinds are made of fabric which gradually folds up in folds as the blind is opened by either chain control or electric.
The folded layers of the roman blinds also provide good Insulation for the house since they are fully lined, blackout lining is also available.

Roman blinds are suitable for most rooms unless they are subject to a lot of moisture such as bathrooms and maybe some kitchens.

Vertical blinds

Vertical blinds hang vertically from a headrail. The blinds have vertical stats which are made from fabric. These slats can be drawn across and changed in angle to adjust to the amount of light that you wish to let into your house.

Along with the adjustable light control and privacy they are a great pick for wide and tall windows because they are lightweight and easy to control. Another advantage of vertical blinds is that they are very low maintenance. This is because the vertical slats rarely pick up dust and don’t require a lot of cleaning.

One stereotype with vertical blinds is that they look like they belong in an office. They are historically seen as being “office blinds” and a little light in terms of visual appeal but they continue to be very popular and a very versatile blind option.
Vertical blinds cannot also provide total darkness which does not offer total blackout.

Shutter blinds

Shutters are a great option offering Style and Practicality
Shutters are made from Wood or Fauxwood and come in many different styles and options.
They can be made to almost any size and style of window to mirror your windows as near as possible.
They are also very good for insulation for drafty windows or keeping the sun out and could also act as a security deterrent too.
